Officials with the Wendy Wagner Foundation recently opened the nonprofit's second round of biannual grants for women visual artists in the Greater Houston area who demonstrate original expression in contemporary art.

The Wendy Wagner Foundation is named after Houston-based award-winning artist Wendy Wagner, who died in September 2014 from brain cancer. Her artistic legacy, according to a Sept. 11 news release, included 16 solo exhibitions reaching as far as Japan, as well as several group shows.
The foundation in her honor was established in late 2014 with a core mission of empowering women visual artists and creating initiatives through biannual grants and awards, according to the nonprofit's website.
One of the main grants given out every year is the Trio Grants, which offer three unrestricted grants every spring and fall. The fall iteration of the grant includes awarding $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000 to women visual artists in the Greater Houston area who demonstrate original expression in contemporary art.
