Harris County early voting results for the Nov. 8 election show Republican candidate Wesley Hunt holds an early lead of 63.67% in the race for U.S. Rep. District 38, followed by Democrat Duncan Klussmann at 34.93% and Independent Joel Dejean at 1.19%.

Hunt is a consultant who has served in the U.S. Army. When asked by Community Impact in October about his top priorities, Hunt said his goal is "to fight President [Joe] Biden's horrific economy, which has devastated families here in Houston, we need to cut taxes, deregulate all sectors of our economy and, most importantly, stop the trillion-dollar federal spending that got us in this situation in the first place."

Congressional District 38 made its debut for the 2022 midterm elections. It is a brand new district, approved by Gov. Greg Abbott Oct. 25, 2021, as a response to Houston’s growing population.

The new district also shifts representation, with a greater focus placed on parts of River Oaks and the Galleria—or largely white areas.
