A new timeline has been created for Klein ISD’s superintendent search. However, it does not affect the date the selected candidate will replace current superintendent Jim Cain.

Coordinating the calendars of multiple people within the timeframe created the need for more time to conduct the necessary processes to put a candidate in place, said Beverly McGlasson, executive assistant to the superintendent.

The second round of interviews was originally scheduled for April 4-9 and has been pushed to later in the month.

“Since we had built flexibility into the original schedule, the slippage will not impact employment dates,” said Steve Smith, KISD board of trustee president.

The schedule change was due to the logistics of setting up interviews at times that were compatible with the schedules of the candidates and the seven trustees, he said.

The number of applicants remains confidential.

“Things are going quite well and we are very confident that we will be hiring an excellent superintendent to follow Dr. Cain,” Smith said. “We are pleased with the number and quality of applicants for the position.”

The first round of interviews with the selected applicants has been completed. The second round of interviews with the two leading candidates will take place on April 19 and 20.

Once slated to occur on April 18, the lone finalist will be named April 28, Smith said. On April 28 the board will convene to publicly vote on a single finalist. Following that, the finalist will be announced.

The board is then required to wait 21 days before voting to approve an employment contract with the lone finalist, he said. During that period the board will be negotiating the employment contract. On July 5, the new superintendent will be in position.

“Things are progressing nicely, and the board is looking forward to naming the finalist for superintendent,” McGlasson said.
