A partnership between two developers—Caldwell Companies and Land Tejas—has resulted in the completion of West Road between Greenhouse and Fry roads in Cypress. The road is expected to open to drivers following county inspections.
"It’s probably safe to say that it should be open by Nov. 1, but that depends on inspections so that timing could be subject to change," said Tim Johnson, director of community marketing and sales for Land Tejas.
Harris County officials inspected the portion completed by Caldwell Companies Oct. 14 and will inspect the Land Tejas portion once the developer submits its request.
"West Road can be opened to traffic before the inspection by Harris County occurs provided all work is complete and all traffic safety measures shown on the approved plans are installed," said Marc Barbe, manager of public review for the Harris County Engineer's Department.
The road, completed as a two-lane concrete half-boulevard, will extend a highly trafficked east-west corridor in the Cypress area. Caldwell and Land Tejas both manage master-planned communities in the area; the former is the developer of Towne Lake and the latter is the developer of Canyon Lakes West.
The West Road project is one of
several ongoing road projects in Cypress, including an effort to connect Cypress North Houston Road between Barker Cypress and Fry roads and an effort to connect Greenhouse Road north to Mound Road. Officials have said the new roads will be vital to accommodating the growth expected to follow other major transportation projects, such as the widening of Hwy. 290 and the extension of the Grand Parkway.
