The town hall meeting originally scheduled for June 18 has been rescheduled to June 25 due to a conflict in the venue schedule, officials with the Cypress Creek Drainage Improvement District announced May 15.

The meeting will still take place at the Coles Crossing Community Center—13050 Barker Cypress Road, Cypress—and will begin at 6 p.m.

The Cypress Creek Drainage Improvement District will host a series of town hall meetings throughout the second quarter of this year to gather community input on the district's plans.

What you need to know

Cypress Creek watershed residents, business owners and other community stakeholders are invited to attend the following workshops hosted by the CCDID:
  • April 16: Timber Lane Utility District Community Center, 1910 Naplechase Crest Drive, Spring
  • May 21: George H.W. Bush Community Center, 6827 Cypresswood Drive, Spring
  • June 18: Coles Crossing Community Center, 13050 Barker Cypress Road, Cypress
Each meeting will begin at 6 p.m.

The backstory

As previously reported by Community Impact, the CCDID was created through the passage of House Bill 5334 in June, which created a special-purpose district to address flooding along the Cypress Creek watershed. The district:
  • Encompasses the Cypress Creek and Little Cypress Creek watersheds, excluding the cities of Waller and Prairie View
  • Is governed by a temporary board of five directors and will require an election to select five permanent directors and confirm the creation of the district prior to Sept. 1, 2027
  • Does not have the powers of eminent domain, to impose tax or issue bonds under current law
In case you missed it

The district hosted a series of town halls in October, during which officials said they hoped to have a comprehensive flood mitigation and funding plan created by 2024 or 2025.

In January, CCDID's temporary board of directors were officially sworn in and include:
  • President Calvin B. Cobb
  • Vice President Mark Adam
  • Secretary/Treasurer Clara Lewis
  • Joe Myers
  • Barbara Schlattman
