Cy-Fair ISD has named Tonya Goree as the district's new chief academic officer starting in 2025, according to a Dec. 13 news release.

Goree will oversee the district’s curriculum and instruction. She replaces Linda Macias, whose retirement is effective Dec. 31.

“I am incredibly excited to take on this role,” Goree said in the release. “I am looking forward to continuing The Path to Amazing that has already been started in curriculum and instruction. I am deeply committed to collaborating with the community and all stakeholders to ensure we give the best possible opportunities to our students in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.”

Career history

Goree, who joined CFISD in 2009, spent the last year as the assistant superintendent for elementary curriculum and instruction, leading CFISD’s pre-K through fifth grade curriculum and instruction programs while supporting principals and leadership teams.


Before that, she was the assistant superintendent for school improvement and transformation from 2018-23, where she supported campuses and coached pre-K through 12th grade principals on improvement practices.

Goree earned her Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Lamar University, her Master of Education in educational administration from Prairie View A&M University and her Doctor of Education in educational leadership from the University of Houston.
