California-based, family-owned Carmelita's Kitchen & Tequila has opened its first Texas location in Cypress.

The business was established in 1962 by Alberto and Carmen Heredia and named after the family’s matriarch, Community Impact previously reported. Their grandson Chayane Heredia expanded the business to Houston and is this location’s general manager.

On the menu

The restaurant is known for its modern Mexican cuisine and hand-crafted margaritas.

Guacamole, queso fundido, shrimp ceviche and sweet corn tamale cakes are on the starters menu, and several salad options are also available. Entrees include:
  • Braised brisket enchiladas
  • Grilled fajitas
  • Crispy chimichanga
  • Mexico City tacos
  • Steak tampiquena
  • Baja seafood tacos
  • Carmelita’s wet burrito
The menu also touts margaritas made with real lime juice and organic agave nectar. Flavored margarita options include cucumber cilantro, grilled pineapple chile, blackberry blast, raspberry bail and strawberry jalapeno.


Wine, beer, cocktails are also on the menu. Desserts include vanilla cheese flan and churros.
