The body of Kemah Police Chief and Clear Creek ISD board member Chris Reed was found Sunday morning, according to a city of Kemah Facebook post. Reed's body was found about 1.5 miles north of the Texas City Dike. At about 4:15 p.m. Friday, Reed fell into the water from his fishing boat in the area after it was struck by a wake from a passing vessel, according to reports. Reed's wife was onboard but was not thrown overboard or injured. Reed was not wearing a life jacket. Several agencies and volunteers searched the water overnight Friday and all day Saturday. A Galveston County marine unit boat crew recovered Reed's body around 7:57 a.m. Sunday near mile marker 32 on the west end of the Houston Ship Channel, according to the post. “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Chief Reed, as well the Kemah and law enforcement communities,” said Lt. Cmdr. Caren Damon, Coast Guard search and rescue mission coordinator. Search crews covered about 650 square miles over the course of approximately 40 hours of searching.
