Throughout October, a Clear Creek ISD committee has been examining the potential benefits of students starting school later in the day, and residents will soon be able to share their thoughts and concerns.

The CCISD School Start Time Committee has come up with two potential models for school start times. The first would keep start times where they are, with elementary students starting at 7:55 a.m., intermediate students starting at 8:40 a.m. and high school students starting at 7:10 a.m. The second would move start times back so elementary students would start at 8:15 a.m., intermediate students would start at 9 a.m. and high school students would start at 7:30 a.m.

CCISD on Oct. 22 from 6-7 p.m. will host a public input meeting at the Learner Support Center, 2903 Falcon Pass, Houston, for residents to comment on moving school start times back. The committee will consider public input when making a recommendation to present to the school board Nov. 11, according to the district.

Residents can also take a survey about school start times here. Surveys should be completed no later than Oct. 21, according to the district.

CCISD began examining the potential of moving back school start times after several parents started coming to the board a couple years ago saying there was evidence that students would benefit from starting school later, CCISD board trustee Jennifer Broddle said.
