WHAT WE REPORTED The League City City Council on Oct. 30 approved a predevelopment agreement with Western Spherical Developers to build an entertainment hub on the site of the Chester L. Davis Sportsplex and build a new, bigger sportsplex on the city’s south side. The city’s goal is for no taxpayer money to fund the $460 million worth of developments.
THE LATEST City officials and the developer are preparing to sign a development agreement that would see construction begin. Officials have set a target date of Jan. 31 to sign the agreement, but if that deadline is not met it will be in the first quarter of 2019, said David Hoover, League City’s economic development director.
League City will continue to own the land Epicenter League City is built upon, and city officials are trying to find a fair price at which to lease the land. As soon as the development agreement is signed, contractors will begin building the new sportsplex, Hoover said.
“It’s a lot of stuff to knock out in two or three months,” he said.
