At its March 15 meeting, Humble City Council unanimously approved an ordinance canceling its May 5 election for council positions 3, 4 and 5 after incumbents holding those positions filed unopposed. Council members Allan Steagall, Norman Funderburk and David Pierce will retain their seats on the council.

The deadlines to file for the positions and to file as a write-in candidate were Feb. 16 and 20, respectively.

Elections for council positions 3, 4 and 5 were also canceled in May 2016 because the incumbents—Steagall, Funderburk and Pierce—filed unopposed.

In last year’s May election, Mayor Merle Aaron Sr. and Council Member Allen Calfee ran unopposed, while incumbent Charles Curry defeated Ross Adkins to retain his seat on the council, according to Harris County data.
