Bored in Bellaire? Mired in Meyerland? Wistful in West U? Do not fret, there are plenty of activities around to check out while still staying safe and preventing the spread of coronavirus. Here are few local opportunities to get out of a rut the week of April 20.

April 21-28: MFAH film streaming screenings


The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is streaming this season's selected films for a limited time. April 21 is the last day to stream "The Whistlers," a Romanian crime thriller, and "Vitalina Varela," a drama about a wife seeking to reunite with her husband. Last but not least, viewers can stream a lighthearted compilation of cat videos, "CatVideoFest," an annual film event that began in 2012. April 22: Save Houston's Biodiversity

The Houston Museum of Natural Science and The Nature Conservancy co-host a virtual lecture for the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. The talk will cover Houston's local biodiversity and introduce mobile apps such as iNaturalist, which will be used in the City Nature Challenge. Free.


April 22 & 25: Popups and live music

Bellaire's Dandelion Cafe is hosting a series of livestream concerts and popup events promoting its local partners' retail items at its cafe. A Plant it Forward produce pop-up is scheduled for noon to 2 p.m., and is scheduled for every Wednesday through May 27. Tianna Hall of The Houston Jazz Band will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 25 for a KICPOP popup, which will be livestreamed as well. April 23: Author of "The Tantrum Survival Guide"

Through May 8: #MissingHOU virtual dinner party contest

Houston First and Visit Houston are holding a virtual dinner party contest to encourage residents to support local restaurants. Participants should order takeout from a local restaurant, invite their friends to do the same, then host a video chat meeting. Post one photo from the "party" with the hashtag #MissingHOU to be entered to win a $100 gift card.
