July sales tax revenue figures released July 8 by the Office of the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts shows that Bellaire’s sales tax revenue has slipped year over year, while West University Place's has seen an uptick.

It should be noted that July sales tax revenue allocated by the comptroller’s office comes from sales made two months earlier in local jurisdictions.

That means that the 7% decrease in revenue allocated to the city of Bellaire in July and the nearly 9% uplift sent to West University Place represents a proportional decrease and increase in revenue generated by sales tax-generating businesses.

Bellaire sales tax revenue has remained on a slight downward trend since May, while West University Place sales tax revenue rebounded after a dip in June.

Made with Flourish

The new revenue figures come after Bellaire and West University Place saw strong January and February numbers—substantial uplifts compared to a year ago, according to the data. March and April in 2019 and 2020 saw dips in both cities, though Bellaire’s 2020 April sales tax revenue dropped by more than $30,000, at approximately $167,000, as compared to a year ago, at approximately $198,000.
