Longtime Houston restaurateur Benjy Levit debuted the newest restaurant concept known as Local Foods Market inside Rice University Nov. 20.

How it works

According to a Nov. 20 news release, the market and restaurant offer a variety of food selections that showcase the best of Local Foods Group alongside locally sourced coffee, beer and wine.

The opening of the restaurant marks the second outpost for Local Foods Group, which opened its first market inside Rice Village in 2021.

The new market is located inside Rice University's Brochstein Pavilion and is open to students, staff and the public.

On the menu

The menu includes sandwiches, salads, personal pizzas, pasta and breakfast tacos. Per the release, items are made with locally sourced ingredients.

On the beverage side, a beer and wine programs is slated to bring a curated collection of labels, including Saint Arnold Brewing Co. and a wine blend made in collaboration with William Chris Vineyards, to customers in the fall.

Espresso-based drinks are available with beans made from Greenway Coffee as well as the signature Local Foods' honey iced coffee.

Quote of note

Beth Leaver, senior executive director and chief hospitality officer at Rice University, said she is excited to bring Local Foods to the students and staff on campus, as well as the public.

“When selecting a food vendor to rejuvenate the Brochstein Pavilion, we sought one that values thoughtful ingredient sourcing, sustainable practices and awareness of the varied dietary needs of our students and employees," she said in the release. “This partnership brings an exciting opportunity for even greater variety on campus."

Local Foods Market will be open Mon.-Fri. from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sat.-Sun. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The venue will also be available to book for private events with a capacity of up to 300 guests.
