National Recycling Day, also known as America Recycles Day, is coming up on Nov. 15, and the cities of Bellaire and West University Place are each hosting community events for residents looking to dispose of materials.
The local impact
Bellaire’s Environmental Sustainability Board and Public Works Department are slated to host a Drive-Thru Recycling Drop-Off Event on Oct. 10, per a September news release.
The event will be held from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the city’s public works yard located at 4337 Edith St., Bellaire.
Officials said residents are encouraged to participate by recycling a variety of materials safely and responsibly. Acceptable items include:
Paper shredding
Scrap metal
Small appliances
Computer equipment
TVs, radios and stereos
Residents are asked to load their materials into their vehicles and follow the on-site signage upon arrival at the event for a seamless drop-off process. For further information, residents may reach out to the Public Works Department via phone.
If on-site collection trucks reach capacity, officials noted that the event may conclude earlier than the scheduled time.

Hosted at the city’s public works facility located at 3826 Milton St., Houston, the free event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and will be open to West U residents only. Proof of residency will be required to participate, officials said.
Each household will be limited to five banker boxes of recyclable material. Business shredding is not permitted. Acceptable items include:
