The grand opening of a new and immersive exhibition that highlights five Asian countries is coming to Asia Society Texas on July 21. Officials with AST announced the three-day grand opening event for “Explore Asia” will take place in Houston’s Museum District.
The $4.6 million permanent exhibit housed at the Yoshio Taniguchi-designed Asia Society Texas Center focuses specifically on China, India, Japan, South Korea and Vietnam. It’s an interactive learning exhibit that focuses on Asian art and culture for guests of all ages, officials said. Those visiting can learn about different culinary meals and where to find them in Houston and participate in a drumming experience, among other experiences.
“We hope guests from all background will have fun exploring the exhibit and find connectivity to our shared lives and experiences,” AST President Bonna Koi said in a news release. “Houston is one of the most diverse metropolitan areas in the U.S., and we are honored to uplift the cultural significance and people who have helped shape our city.”
