The machines are vending machines where people can donate items such as food, clothing and medical care to people in need, with prices ranging from $5-$250, according to the release.

The Giving Machines are part of the “Light The World” initiative by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according to the news release. Since the initiative began in 2017, more than $33 million in goods and services have been donated around the world.
In 2023, nearly $1 million was raised across Texas, with around $200,000 raised in Houston, according to the news release. The most popular donations in 2023 were books for African schoolgirls, meals for families in Houston and milk goats for families in developing countries.
