The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council is kicking off cookie sales on Feb. 10, with the season running through March 24, according to a Jan. 25 news release.

The gist

The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council serves 26 counties in Southeast Texas, according to its website. That includes the Houston-area counties of:

  • Brazoria
  • Chambers
  • Fort Bend
  • Galveston
  • Harris
  • Liberty
  • Montgomery
  • Waller

Locals can expect to see cookie booths in their area beginning Feb. 16, according to the news release. To see what flavors of cookies there are and to find where to buy cookies, visit www.gssjc.org/en/cookies/cookie-flavors-abc.html.

Put in perspective

Though the price of cookies is increasing to $6 this year, troops will receive a 20% increase over last year’s proceeds, according to the news release. The proceeds of cookie sales go toward:

  • Covering the cost of the cookie program
  • Supporting community projects and adventures for troops
  • Helping provide resources to Girl Scout programs in science, technology, engineering and math subjects alongside other subjects, such as the outdoors, life skills, entrepreneurship, camps and leadership training
  • Supporting local programs, such as horseback riding and camp experiences
  • Funding troop rewards and recognitions

Quote of note

“Launching into a new Girl Scout cookie season is like opening a door to endless possibilities for our girls and their troops,” CEO Mary Vitek said via news release. “Through the cookie program, girls learn essential life skills, develop confidence and build a foundation for future success.”
