One of League City’s water facilities is set to double in capacity, and League City City Council members will consider hiring a consultant for over $6 million to help design the new facility.

The overview

On Aug. 8, League City City Council will consider a $6.01 million contract with consultant Freese and Nichols to design and perform bid phase services for the expansion of the Southwest Water Reclamation Facility.

City officials wish to expand the facility from a capacity of 4 million gallons per day to 8 million to serve the city’s growing southwest side.

The backstory

The city already hired Freese and Nichols to conduct a capacity study of the facility, and the consultant’s recommendations resulted in capacity growing to 5.4 million gallons per day.

“Therefore, scope of this project are the additional components improvements that will be required to expand the [facility] from 5.4 to 8.0 [million gallons per day],” agenda documents read.

Next steps

Council will meet to vote on the item Aug. 8 at 6 p.m. at 200 W. Walker St., League City.
