On May 1, League City saw changes to its solid waste contract, resulting in a garbage collection fee increase from $19.66 a month to $20.84 a month.

Current situation

The new contract with AmeriWaste includes a few benefits for residents.
  • Residents can now place up to six bags of yard waste and two heavy trash items, like household appliances, on both of their garbage pickup days each week.
  • There will be two curbside household hazardous waste events in the summer and winter in addition to the events held in Hometown Heroes Park each spring and fall. For the curbside events, residents need to call AmeriWaste at 281-585-3200 to be added to the list, and those on the list will be told when the event will happen.
The backstory

League City City Council renewed its contract with AmeriWaste in October.

One of the losing bidders for the contract, Frontier Waste Solutions, attempted to sway council by claiming recyclables AmeriWaste collected were not being recycled but instead being sent to a Galveston landfill.
