The date for the public town hall on the redistricting of Houston City Council District E has been rescheduled.

The meeting will now occur at 6 p.m. May 18 at the Special Events Building at Space Center Houston, 1601 NASA Parkway, Houston. The meeting date was changed to allow for Mayor Sylvester Turner to attend, according to a news release.

Previously, the meeting was scheduled for April 11. The Kingwood and Lake Houston meeting is still set for April 19 as originally scheduled.

As previously reported, the redistricting process aims to maintain relatively equal population numbers among districts, preserve incumbent-constituency relations, retain integrity of neighborhoods or communities of interest, and ensure the districts are easily identifiable by geographic boundaries. Additionally, officials aim to establish compact and contiguous districts that are composed of whole-county voting precincts.

The city will host two public hearings July 13 and 20 on proposed redistricting plans and vote on a finalized map Sept. 14. The map would go into effect Jan. 1, 2024.
