Clear Creek ISD formally appointed Karen Engle as the superintendent for the district at its regular Dec. 12 meeting, after a 21-day waiting period as lone finalist as required by Texas law.

The board formerly had named Engle the interim superintendent, following the former Superintendent Eric Williams’ leave of absence and announcement of voluntary retirement July 12.

“She understands our culture of innovation and excellence, and has the vision to guide us into the future," Board President Jay Cunningham said.

Williams’ retirement will be fully effective Jan. 31, 2023.

Engle has served in various roles in the field of education over the span of 20-plus years as an assistant principal, an elementary and high school principal, and the assistant superintendent of secondary education until her retirement in December 2021. However, she left retirement to serve as the interim superintendent this summer when asked to fill the position.

"For me, the CCISD star represents the shining light of hope and education that our district has been for me personally and to our students over the decades," Engle said, "The star reminds me of our people, our purpose, our promise."

Engle also spent her early academic life attending CCISD schools from elementary to high school.

“We had 21 days for the community to speak,” Board Trustee Jeff Larson said. “I looked and looked and looked for that one person to make an objection, but I couldn’t find one.”
