Frisco residents will soon see a 10% rate reduction in trash and recycling rates.
During an Aug. 18 meeting, the Frisco City Council approved a new, 10-year contract with Waste Connection Lone Star to keep the solid waste disposal company’s services in Frisco through 2037.
What it means
With the new rates, Frisco residents’ rates will decrease in the first year from $15.39 to $13.85 per month, according to city documents.
Through the new contract, Waste Connection Lone Star will purchase new residential and commercial trash and recycling bins within the city. Old trash and recycling bins will be replaced through the second and third quarters of 2027.
The design of Waste Connection Lone Star’s new trash and recycling bins will be selected by city officials and will feature the city logo along with a QR code linking to a city webpage on educational items.
Commercial front-load rates will see an increase of 13.75% each year through 2032, and will then follow an annual consumer price index decrease.
How we got here
Frisco first contracted Waste Connection Lone Star in August 2014, with an original expiration date of 2024. A 2017 amendment extended it through July 2027.
The original contract was established following residents’ concerns about issues with the regular trash pickup schedule. Since then, residential rates have only been adjusted through annual changes in the consumer price index and a regulatory change affecting the alternative fuel credit.
City Council discussed renewing the contract during a December 2025 work session, and city officials were supportive of working on an extension with Waste Connection Lone Star, according to city documents.
Also of note
City documents state a consultant’s market analysis compared waste disposal rates in Frisco with those in Allen, McKinney, Plano, Coppell and Richardson, finding that only Allen had lower rates than Frisco.
Waste Connection Lone Star will work in coordination with their vendor partner to ensure a smooth and efficient transition for all residents, city documents state.
