The number of mosquito pools testing positive for West Nile virus in Frisco is steadily increasing, city data shows.
The city of Frisco recorded its 12th mosquito pool testing positive for West Nile with two positive tests on Sept. 11. The majority of pools testing positive for West Nile are located in south Frisco.
What to know
Frisco’s two most recent mosquito pools testing positive for West Nile are located in the Frisco Avalon/Meadow Hill Estates area and the Edgestone at Legacy/Stewart Creek Estates area. Overnight ground spraying was conducted Sept. 12 and Sept. 13.
Dallas County Health and Human Services confirmed its first positive mosquito pool in March, and its first positive human case of West Nile on Aug. 11.
For the 2025 season, DCHHS reported 10 human West Nile cases with one death. According to city data, Frisco recorded 21 total positive mosquito pools in 2025.
West Nile season runs through October in the U.S., with peak transmission occurring in August and September, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Residents are encouraged to follow the 'Wear, Apply, Remove' guidelines to prevent mosquito bites.
Wear: Wear long sleeves and pants outside at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
Apply: Use insect repellants every time you go outside. Approved repellents contain DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
Remove: Drain standing water that collects in bird baths, French drains, clogged gutters, saucers under potted plants and "splash blocks" (at the end of a gutter downspout). The mosquitoes that carry WNV can breed in stagnant water
