Katy ISD’s newest high school now has a principal. Ethan Crowell was unanimously approved by the board of trustees at the May 28 meeting to become the first principal of High School No. 9, which will open in fall 2020 in Cross Creek Ranch, near Fulshear. Crowell’s first day will be July 1, he said. He has worked for the district for five years. Other positions held during his time in the district include student support administrator at Morton Ranch High School and principal at Beckendorff Junior High School, according to a KISD press release. “It’s exciting,” Crowell said when asked how he feels about becoming the leader of a new high school. “We get to build new traditions, build a community and build a new culture.” Crowell came to KISD from Fort Bend ISD, he said. He spent four years as the assistant principal/academy coordinator for Clements High School, according to the KISD release. He also taught in Pasadena ISD. Crowell holds a bachelor’s degree from University of North Texas, a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and an doctorate of education from the University of Houston. High School No. 9 broke ground in spring 2018. The $206.1 million campus will have capacity for about 3,000 students, according to the district's website.
