The Dallas Area Rapid Transit board approved an interlocal agreement Nov. 12 that includes thousands of dollars for street repairs along Main Street in Richardson, according to a DART press release.

Funding from DART totals $330,590 and will help pay for a complete pavement replacement along Main from near Sherman Street to just east of Greenville Avenue. It will also cover several traffic enhancements at Main and Greenville, including new turn lanes and a signal replacement, according to DART.

The enhancements are part of the city’s Main Street redevelopment project, which kicked off in September and is expected to continue through the end of 2021 or beginning of 2021. Street improvements will pave the way for installation of wider sidewalks with new lighting, picnic tables, benches, bike racks, enhanced landscaping and new open space, according to the city.

DART’s contribution to the project is derived from its Street Repair Policy, which was approved in 1994 and aims to assist service area cities with road improvement projects. Projects are submitted by cities for approval and must be shown to be a benefit to DART, according to Richardson city officials.
