Velvet Taco expects to open a location at 102 W. Campbell Road, Richardson, during the middle of the summer, according to a spokesperson for the restaurant. A request by the Dallas-based taqueria for a special permit was approved by Richardson City Council at its at Jan. 27 meeting. The permit allows the restaurant to have fewer parking spaces and a taller sign than what is required by the city's zoning ordinance. The restaurant, which will be in the former C&M Tires and Wheels building, will have patio seating and a drive-thru window for pick-up orders. Velvet Taco is known for its variety of unorthodox tacos, such as tikka chicken, falafel and raw tuna. The restaurant also serves elote-style corn and red curry coconut queso. www.velvettaco.com
