Richardson’s Department of Engineering and Capital Projects has a new head, according to a news release.

Nicholas Kohel will take over the department moving forward, per the news release, after serving as assistant director since February 2023.

“Nick’s two decades of experience, coupled with his commitment to cultivating a team that delivers superior capital projects while focusing on customer service, makes him the ideal person to lead the talented staff we have and bring our current bond programs to a successful completion,” City Manager Don Magner said.

The gist

Kohel will be responsible for administering Engineering and Capital Projects current and future bond programs, acquiring right-of-way and easements, overseeing the city’s drainage utility program and more.


“I am proud to be part of the Richardson team and look forward to continuing to lead the talented staff in the Engineering [and] Capital Projects Department,” Kohel said. “The city of Richardson takes great pride in providing the best level of service to its residents.”

What else?

Kohel holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

According to the news release, he has overseen several road construction projects, the 825 Pressure Zone improvements, and the opening of temporary City Hall and library facilities.
