Richardson received a bronze award Dec. 17 from the Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities Coalition.

According to its website, the coalition is a nationwide network of cities helping to ensure energy and economic security in the U.S. The awards, given on an annual basis, recognize a city's efforts to reduce emissions and improve fuel efficiency of fleet vehicles. This is Richardson’s fifth year in a row to win the Fleet Recognition Award, according to the city.

The awards are given based on results from the DFW Clean Cities annual survey. Strategies to reduce fuel consumption can include the use of alternative fuel vehicles, reducing idling or using technology to improve efficiency. Twenty-one public-sector fleets were recognized this year, according to organization.
