Nearly 4,500 residents who live within Richardson’s three ZIP codes filed for unemployment insurance between March 18-April 18, according to data from the Texas Workforce Commission.

The commission released a new interactive mapping tool in late April, which breaks down unemployment insurance claims at the ZIP code level. According to the data, 4,452 unemployment insurance claimants reside within the Richardson area.

Of the total number of claimants, 2,075 are men, and 2,377 are women. Roughly 76%, or 3,374 claimants, were considered monetarily eligible to receive unemployment insurance benefits. The remaining 1,078 claimants were considered ineligible.

According to the data, ZIP code 75081 had the most claimants, with 1,865 residents filing for benefits. ZIP code 75081 had the highest percentage of claimants compared with its total population at 4.85%. Similarly, ZIP code 75082 had the least number of claimants with 986 people filing for benefits, while ZIP code 75080 had the lowest percentage of claimants compared with its total population at 3.28%.

Here are the number of unemployment insurance claimants for Richardson-area ZIP codes per April 27 data as well as population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.

  • 75080: 1,601 UI claimants, or 3.28% of the 48,673 population

  • 75081: 1,865 UI claimants, or 4.85% of the 38,380 population

  • 75082: 986 UI claimants, or 3.75% of the 26,293 population
