Brandon Grumbles, a Celina native and local business owner, was the only resident to submit his name for consideration for Celina City Council’s vacant Place 6 seat.
Some context
Following the resignation of former member Tony Griggs, council members had already called for a Dec. 9 special election to fill his seat and gave prospective candidates a Sept. 28-Oct. 9 window to add their name to the ballot.
As Grumbles was the only candidate to file before the deadline, council is expected to formally cancel the December election and swear him in at a future meeting, according to a statement from city officials.
“I'm really just trying to do things that help out the town that my great-grandparents essentially helped found,” Grumbles said.

More information, including a swearing-in date, is expected to be announced once council formally accepts a cancellation order for the special election.
“I've been asked what my personal agenda with Celina is, and honestly it's to make it a town that my kids and my grandkids are going to want to live in,” Grumbles said. “I want to make it something that they want to come back to.”
