Prosper ISD freshmen will have the opportunity to learn skills and strategies for transitioning into high school through a new course.

The Personal and Academic Skills for Success course, also known as PASS, was approved by the district’s board of trustees March 25 and will be available for students in the 2024-25 school year. The new class is considered an innovative course by the Texas Education Agency, which allows districts to offer courses that master skills and knowledge not included in the required curriculum, according to TEA officials.

About the course

PASS will be available for freshmen as a one-credit, on-level weighted GPA course, per the agenda. The course will help students develop time management, organization and study skills. It will also focus on:
  • Attitude
  • Character education
  • Decision-making
  • Leadership
  • Self-understanding
The course requires counselor approval, according to the agenda.
