The Texas Department of State Health Services now lists Baylor Scott & White Health alongside Medical City Plano as the two hospitals in city limits offering the state's highest designation of stroke care.
"We are excited to achieve the comprehensive stroke center designation," the hospital's Medical Stroke Director Dr. Avesh Verma said. "I commend everyone who worked diligently at achieving this designation as it is evidence of our continued commitment to providing quality stroke care for this community."
The designation indicates the hospital is able to treat the most complex stroke cases and has the ability to “treat stroke patients who require intensive medical and surgical care,” according to a company news release.
In addition to these requirements, the state also requires Level I stroke centers to have 24/7 stroke teams and operating room support as well as a variety of surgical offerings and educational and research programs.
The hospital, located at 4700 Alliance Blvd., Plano, joins Medical City Plano as the second hospital in city limits to receive the designation. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano is a Level II primary stroke facility.
