Growing up, Rebecca Winters looked up to her family members.

"My dad is a teacher. My sister is a teacher. My brother-in-law is a teacher. We come from a family of teachers, and I always knew that's what I wanted to be," she said.

Winters wanted to be a drill team dance instructor, but the jobs were scarce. She tried math, but it was too hard. She studied art in college as a "fallback," but it became her career.

For almost 13 years, Winters has been teaching calligraphy, drawing and painting to junior high students in Hurst.

She also teaches the basics and intricacies of acrylic painting to adults at her art studio, Art in the Vine, which opened on July 29, 2011.
