McKinney City Council gave the official approval needed for a rezoning request Sept. 7 for a new winery in downtown McKinney.

The council heard from Barons Creek Vineyards, which currently has locations in Granbury, Fredericksburg and Georgetown, to develop a wine bar and winery at 301 W. Louisiana St. in downtown McKinney. The project would include a kitchen that would be primarily used for charcuterie boards and light appetizers, staff said. Plans for the winery showed 76 indoor seats and a 32-seat patio in the front facing Louisiana.

The applicant said that the winery would be education-based to learn about wines through food and wine-pairing classes and wine tastings. The winery would most likely serve people in the 40-75 age range, the applicant said.
