Why are you running?

I am running for school board to improve academic standards and promote student success. I am not only a stakeholder, but I am a parent. I want to ensure all children are provided the opportunity to receive a quality education that sets them up for their future. Whether that is a higher education, joining the military, attending a trade school or entering the workforce.

What are you hoping to accomplish if you are elected?

Academic excellence, return to a classical education for all students. Financial transparency/accountability, stakeholders should be allowed to know exactly how their tax dollars are being spent. Opening the financials to the public as well as asking the hard questions in open meetings allows for constructive discussion and public input. Respect and support our teachers. Allow for the teachers to have the opportunity to discuss pain points free of repercussions so we can address them.

What are the top issues McKinney ISD is facing in the coming years?

Restoring our district from a B-rated to an A-rated district. Academics should be our primary focus. We are cultivating the future leaders of our community. These students deserve the absolute best education we can possibly give them.

What are some new ideas or programs you would like the district to explore?

McKinney ISD offers some amazing CTE (Career and Technical Education) programs for our students. I would like to explore the accessibility for all students to have the opportunity to participate in these programs. Also, I would like to explore adding and additional recess for K-5 students. Adding a community input night for all community members to voice their concerns and give compliments would be a great avenue to explore.

Why are you running?

I would like to continue to serve on the school board in McKinney ISD because I know the importance of having a great school system. I want all McKinney ISD students to thrive just as my own two children did in our school system. We cannot have a great city without great schools. There is a concerted effort to demonize our teachers and librarians, defund public schools and dismantled our schools.

What are you hoping to accomplish if you are elected?

I would like us to continue our laser focus on academic excellence and safety. Our students will enter the workforce where jobs are constantly changing and we need to prepare them for this. I want to continue to raise teacher pay and teacher assistant pay. Additionally insuring a smooth transition for our new superintendent is imperative.

What are the top issues McKinney ISD is facing in the coming years?

Safety has to be at the top of the list as an issue as does mental health. This fentanyl crisis is an example of this. Children cannot learn and teachers cannot teach if they do not have an environment of safety and support. A school board members priority has to be to establish policies and procedures to ensure this. Additionally school board members need to approve budgets that focus on academic excellence and safety.

What are some new ideas or programs you would like the district to explore?

I would really like us to start teaching all second graders who cannot swim to swim. It’s heart wrenching every year when children in North Texas are drowning. I would like us to pass a bond that includes an Olympic size pool. We also will need to be sure we have the budget to maintain it. I think we should explore an elementary magnet school while maintaining our dual language program at Caldwell Elementary.
