McKinney ISD approved the district calendar for 2021-22 school year at the Dec. 15 school board meeting.

The 2021-22 calendar will be similar to this year’s calendar: school is starting earlier in August and ending earlier in the spring. The first day of school is set to be Aug. 12 and the last day of class will be on May 20. Part of the goal, Chief Communications Officer Cody Cunningham said, is to give students the opportunity to enjoy more temperate weather before Texas summer heat sets in.

Thanksgiving Break will still be a week long and the winter break will still be two weeks long, from Dec. 20 to Jan. 4. Spring break is scheduled for March 7 to March 11 and staff development days are scheduled for Aug. 2-Aug. 11, Oct. 11, Oct. 25, Nov. 8, Jan. 3, Feb. 21, and May 23, which is also Graduation Day.

Other student holidays include Labor Day, Sept. 6, and Martin Luther King Day, Jan. 17.

Bad weather days are scheduled for Apr. 15 and Apr. 25.
