A second mosquito pool in McKinney tested positive for West Nile Virus, the city announced in a press release today. The first pool to test positive was found in July.

The city will spray a mile radius around Charlie and Charlotte Mooneyham Elementary School, located at 2301 Eden Drive, at 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Signs will be posted to notify residents of spraying activity, according to the release. The city recommends residents and pets in the affected area stay inside during the spray period.

Residents who do not want the city to spray near their home should contact the city of McKinney Health Compliance at 972-547-7447 by Wednesday at 4 p.m.

To minimize risks posed by the West Nile Virus, city officials recommend draining bodies of standing water where mosquitoes can breed. Residents can also use DEET-based repellent and stay indoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
