Lewisville Independent School District high school graduation ceremonies will return to the University of North Texas campus in the spring following a 6-1 vote by the board of trustees during its Sept. 13 meeting.

The graduation ceremonies will occur within the North Texas Coliseum, also known as the “Super Pit,” on May 29 and May 30, according to the meeting notes. The university has hosted 22 years of LISD graduation ceremonies dating back to 1973 and most recently served the district in 2019.

The estimated 2022 expenditure for high school graduation ceremonies is $60,855, according to meeting notes.

The university’s proposal includes parking, open concessions, tables and chairs, staging, ramps, and the use of its video boards and sound system.

The district contracted with Texas Motor Speedway in Roanoke for its 2020 ceremony for $73,616 and with The Star in Frisco for its 2021 ceremonies for $215,890.

According to the University of North Texas, the coliseum has seating capacity for 9,979 spectators. Graduates will occupy seats on the competition floor.
