Per unofficial vote totals from Dallas and Denton counties, the race between William J. Meridith and Penny Mallet for Place 2 on Lewisville City Council is headed to a runoff.

Mallet received 1,980 votes, for 41.52%, while Meridith got 1,753 votes, for 36.76%. The third candidate Ainsley Stelling received 1,036 votes, for 21.72%, and will not advance to the next election, which will take place June 15.

“It’s unfortunate that we’re headed to a runoff and we’re going to have to go through this whole exercise again,” Meridith said. “My campaign will move forward with a positive outcome with a win for the city of Lewisville.”

Unofficial voting totals included 57,812 votes cast, or 9.01%, out of Denton County’s 641,470 registered voters. Dallas County unofficial voting totals have 80,129 ballots cast, or 5.6%, out of the county’s 1,430,934 million registered voters.

With unofficial voting totals coming in from Dallas and Denton counties, the race for Place 2 on Lewisville City Council is headed to a runoff election between incumbent William J. Meridith and Penny Mallet.

Mallet received 1,979 votes, for 41.52%, while Meridith received 1,752 votes, for 36.76%. A third candidate Ainsley Stelling received 1,035 votes, for 21.72%, and will not advance to the next election, which will take place June 15.

Unofficial voting totals included 57,812 votes cast, or 9.01%, out of Denton County’s 641,470 registered voters. Dallas County unofficial voting totals have 61,654 ballots cast, for 4.31%, out of the county’s 1.43 million registered voters with 229 out of 442 precincts reporting.

“I hate that we’re headed to a runoff because it’s costing the community so much money, so let’s get it over with and move on,” Mallet said.

Unofficial voting totals are coming in for Dallas and Denton counties for the election of the Place 2 member on Lewisville City Council.

Challenger Penny Mallet still leads the race with 1,979 votes, or 41.52%. Incumbent William J. Meridith has 1,752 votes, or 36.76%, while Ainsley Stelling has 1,035 votes, or 21.72%.

Dallas and Denton counties have released early voting totals related to the election for Place 2 on Lewisville City Council.


What you need to know

Lewisville had two ballot items for the election, including Place 2 on Lewisville City Council with three candidates in the running.

According to unofficial early voting results, Penny Mallet leads the race for Place 2 with 1,412 votes. Incumbent William J. Meridith has 1,364 votes, and Ainsley Stelling has 763 votes.

In early voting, there were 47,622 ballots cast countywide, which represents 3.33% of Dallas County's 1,430,934 million registered voters. Early voting ballots in Denton County totaled 42,141 countywide, which represented 6.57% of the county's 641,470 registered voters.

Totals from ballots cast May 4 have yet to be released. Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line at 7 p.m. were still able to cast ballots.
