The change switches dates for an April 2026 professional development day and a bad weather day, according to district documents.
What to know
CISD approved both the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school calendars in January 2024. Last summer, the district considered moving the 2024-25 spring break to March 10-14 to maintain alignment with changes at Dallas College, per previous Community Impact reporting. CISD aligned its spring break with the college for its dual credit students, however no changes were made and the 2024-25 break remains March 17-21.
The 2025-26 spring break will be March 16-20, also the third week of the month. With the changes made Dec. 9, an April 17 professional development day and April 20 bad weather day will now be April 3 and April 6 respectively, according to district documents. The previous dates will now be regular school days.
The change allows for CISD to be closed and all students and staff to be off on Good Friday due to lower-than-normal student and staff attendance on this holiday. It also aligns with neighboring school district calendars where many CISD employees live, and children attend school, according to district documents.
Also of note
The CISD 2025-26 school year begins Aug. 13 and ends May 21, 2026 and there are 83 days in the first semester and 88 in the second. There are no early release days and no school on Election Day, Nov. 4.
The calendar builds in extra instructional time allowing flexibility to use additional minutes in lieu of bad weather days should the need arise. Students will be in school for 171 days.
