1. Walmart updating, remodeling nearly 50 stores in Dallas-Fort Worth region

Walmart announced it would spend millions of dollars this year to update and remodel nearly 50 stores throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth region, the retailer announced May 5. Renovations to stores will make way for expanded shopping options “to help people save time and money,” according to a Walmart news release. All remodeled stores will offer pickup, delivery and express deliveries in under two hours when completed.

2. Williams Chicken opening new location on Forest Lane in Dallas

Williams Chicken plans to open a new location in the coming months at 9811 Forest Lane, Dallas. The upcoming restaurant will be operated by the same franchise owner as the nearby location on Forest Lane, according to Williams Chicken officials. The restaurant serves white- and dark-meat chicken pieces, chicken sandwiches, and wings as well as sides that include okra, corn and more. It has more than 30 locations spread throughout the North Texas region.


3. Starbucks opening new store at former Taco Cabana location in Dallas

Starbucks opened this summer at 1827 Greenville Ave., Dallas. The new location was built at the former site of Taco Cabana. A variety of hot and cold espresso-based beverages, teas and food are sold by the international coffee store chain. Several existing stores are open around Dallas, including Starbucks locations in the Lakewood and Greenville Avenue neighborhoods.

4. Fortune House Chinese Cuisine opening new location in Lower Greenville area

Fortune House Chinese Cuisine plans to open a second location in the Lower Greenville area of Dallas later this year. The dumpling restaurant, which is located in Irving, will be opening at 2010 Greenville Ave., Dallas, next to the HG Sply Co. No grand opening date has been announced. Fortune House offers a variety of dumpling dishes, including soup, steamed and fried dumplings, chicken and beef entrees, and a kids menu.


5. Filipino fast-food restaurant Jollibee plans to serve fried chicken, more at new Lakewood location

Jollibee plans to open some time in the first half of 2023 at 4703 Greenville Ave., Dallas, according to company officials. The Filipino fast-food restaurant has experienced delays with construction but is expected to open its second North Texas location in East Dallas next year. The menu includes fried chicken, chicken tenders, chicken burgers, beef burgers, burger steaks, jolly spaghetti, desserts and drinks.
