A musical instrument store in Keller will be opening a second location.

The details

Keller City Council approved a specific use permit for Houghton Horns to operate an entertainment facility at 137 Hill St. in Old Town Keller during the Oct. 14 meeting. The business is expected to be open by late November.

In city documents, founder Dennis Houghton wrote in a letter to the city council stating that the expansion will help the business grow and hold a classical music concert series at the new building, which formerly was a Lucas Funeral Home.

The operating hours for the retail store will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and concerts will be held Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons, according to documents.

What else?

The new location will be 5,685 square feet, while the current facility at 121 Lorine St. is 2,000 square feet. That building will serve as the business’s repair shop, according to the company website.

Keller City Council approved a cash grant of $130,000 to cover the cost of installing a new fire suppression system in the company’s future location in October 2023.

The background

The business was founded by Dennis and Karen Houghton and has since added their son, Mark, and Derek Wright to the ownership group.

According to its website, Houghton Horns has been selling and servicing brass instruments in Keller since 1985 as Dennis’ Horn Shop, repairing and cleaning instruments. In 2006, it was renamed Houghton Horns and the current location was opened in 2016.
