Southlake, Colleyville and Keller city councils approved nominations for the Tarrant Appraisal District board during meetings in the first week of October.

What’s happening?

The current terms of the five appointed members of the Tarrant Appraisal District Board of Directors will expire Dec. 31.

The TAD Board of Directors up for reappointment are:
  • Vince Puente
  • Gloria Pena
  • Alan Blaylock
  • Rich DeOtte
  • Gary Losada
According to a letter sent by Chief Appraiser Joe Don Bobbitt, taxing entities have until Oct. 14 to nominate candidates. Taxing entities are not required to submit nominees, but they could, he wrote.

After Oct. 15, TAD will then prepare a ballot to distribute to the taxing entities, which include the school district, the Tarrant County Commissioners Court and public colleges such as Tarrant County College. Votes will be due by Dec. 15. The five candidates who receive the most votes will begin their term Jan. 1, 2025.


What you need to know

Southlake City Council voted to nominate Mike Alfred and Losada, while Colleyville nominated Alfred and Sayeda Syed. Keller nominated Alfred.

Syed and Alfred are both Colleyville residents, according to information provided to the cities.

Grapevine City Council did not nominate anyone during its meeting.


Tarrant County Commissioners nominated three candidates during their Oct. 1 meeting. They were Syed, Mattie Peterson Compton and Lee Henderson.

Explained

Each taxing entity will have a vote tally determined by the percentage of taxes imposed, according to TAD. There is a total of 5,000 votes possible.

The entities with the most votes are the city of Fort Worth with 660 and Fort Worth ISD with 536. Tarrant County College has 505 votes and the Tarrant County commissioners award 498 votes.
