The city of Southlake held a ceremonial ribbon cutting Dec. 20 for the $6.9 million project that replaced a bridge on North White Chapel Boulevard.
What happened
The elevation of the road and the bridge was raised, and a pedestrian pathway on the west side was added.
In August 2024, 100-foot beams that weigh 41 tons were delivered to help support the 200-foot bridge, according to a city news release.
The project started on Aug. 21, 2023, according to previous reporting and concluded in early December, though landscaping efforts will span into early 2025. The work was funded by the city’s capital improvement program and the city partnered with Denton County to complete the project, according to the city website.
The backstory
In September 2018, a flood event damaged the culvert crossing at Kirkwood Branch, according to city documents. Temporary repairs were made to the bridge in early 2019 with the intention of a more “robust” project to secure the bridge, city documents stated.
A contract for construction with Rebcon LLC was approved by Southlake City Council on June 20, 2023.
According to a city social media post, the project was completed on time and on budget.
