Here are ongoing road projects to keep in mind in March and April.





SH 114 frontage road installation


Construction is scheduled to start later this year to complete east- and westbound frontage roads on SH 114 between Kirkwood Boulevard and Dove Road in Southlake. In December, Southlake City Council approved a funding plan with the Texas Department of Transportation to complete the frontage road. Motorists will be able to take the new frontage road from Grapevine to Trophy Club. Local businesses TD Ameritrade and Verizon have donated the right of way to the project, and the city is selecting a contractor.

Kirkwood Branch Creek bridge repair


Workers have begun the pavement work for the roadway around the bridge. The front for both sides of the bridge is complete, and large rocks known as riprap have been placed up- and downstream of the crossing to prevent erosion from inclement weather. The city of Southlake approved designs and emergency repairs of the Kirkwood Branch Creek bridge after rains from the fall caused the road and bridge to experience structural damage. The road has remained closed since. Council recently approved an ordinance to reduce the speed limit on North White Chapel Boulevard from Drum Lane to Wingate Lane from 40 mph to 30 mph, although the road will not be reopened until construction
is complete.

SH 121/I-635 interchange widening


In February, NorthGate Constructors completed the first permanent concrete paving on the northbound SH 121 exit ramp to Bass Pro Drive and the northbound SH 121 ramp to eastbound I-635. Crews have also finished setting beams on the new eastbound side of the Bass Pro bridge. Traffic was shifted from westbound I-635 onto a new temporary ramp as crews continue to work. Weekend road closures will continue nearly every week to complete bridge work on the Bass Pro and SH 26 to northeast SH 121 bridges.

New roundabout at McDonwell School Road and Westcoat Drive


A roundabout will be constructed at the McDonwell School Road and Westcoat Drive intersection. Colleyville Public Works Director Ray Silva-Reyes said roundabouts are safer than other intersections because severe head-on and left-turn crashes do not occur. He said a roundabout is ideal for this intersection because it will aid in reducing fuel consumption and vehicle pollution because vehicles are not idling at a red light. In addition, the raised islands and painted crosswalk at the roundabout provide additional safety features for pedestrians. This project is currently under design.
