The town of Trophy Club will be known as the Texas Town of Patriotism for the next 10 years.

Town Council member Steve Flynn mentioned during the Sept. 22 meeting that the town was bestowed that title after the 89th legislative session.

According to previous reporting, Rep. Ben Bumgarner, R-Flower Mound, and Sen. Tan Parker, R-Flower Mound, led the work in Austin to get the designation passed.

In Parker's filing, it said, "Since its inception, the town of Trophy Club has set an inspiring example by making patriotism a centerpiece of community life and civic engagement, and its efforts deserve to be duly recognized."

The phrasing of the word "town" differentiates and does not conflict with Killeen, which uses the moniker of the Most Patriotic City in Texas.

The designation allows Trophy Club to join nearby cities like Roanoke, The Unique Dining Capital of Texas, and Grapevine, the Christmas Capital of Texas, to have statewide recognition.

Quote of note

“When you plant your flag, know that you had a part in achieving this recognition,” Trophy Club Mayor Jeannette Tiffany said. “They actually take it through the Legislature, and [politicians] can oppose it or support it. So it's not an easy declaration or resolution, but it's a wonderful designation. It's something that many people in this room have helped to make happen.”

The background

Tiffany said families, as early as the 1970s, would have Fourth of July celebrations near SH 114 and Trophy Club Drive. The town became incorporated in 1985, and a large American flag, 28 feet by 30 feet, has been at that intersection for nearly 40 years, according to city documents.

The town's Veterans Memorial was created in 2012 with more than $30,000 in private donations gathered by the Trophy Club Women’s Club. In 2014, the city revamped its logo and incorporated a star in the design that features a red, white and blue color palette, according to the presentation.

What else?

The town has five parks with patriotic-themed names, and flags are flown at eight different locations in the town of 13,691 residents, according to the most recent census data.

For the past 12 years, every street and every neighborhood in Trophy Club has planted flags for the city’s Fourth of July celebration, growing from 10,000 flags in 2013 to more than 30,000 this past year, according to city documents.

The Fourth of July celebration also features the Parade of Patriots and the Patriot 5K.

  • Memorial Day
  • Patriot Day Celebration
