Safety and security
All staff, as well as middle and high school students, are required to wear identification badges while on district property. Students in grades 6-12 must carry their official school ID at all times when attending events at the Collins Athletic Complex and Bill Carrico Athletic Complex.
Students are required to present their ID upon request by stadium personnel, school officials or law enforcement, the district website states.
All visitors must sign in with a school’s front office and present identification before entering the building. Each school features a secured entrance vestibule for screening visitors.
School Security Officers and School Resources Officers are also utilized across DISD campuses. Protocols are in place for emergency responses in collaboration with the I Love U Guys Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on school safety and crisis response.
Student dress code
The districtwide dress code is outlined in the student handbook and offers guidance on standards required by DISD. Some of the dress standards required of students by the dress code include:
- Headgear that is not part of an approved school uniform is not allowed
- No chains or accessories that can be used as a weapon
- Pajamas, slippers or house shoes are not permitted
- No halter top, tank tops, see-through garments, sagging pants or strapless dresses/blouses
Cell phone policy reminders
The district prohibits the use of cell phones, tablets and smartwatches while on campus property during school hours. If a student uses a personal device without permission during school hours, they will be disciplined in accordance with DISD’s student conduct code.
Capturing images on personal devices in locker rooms or restrooms is prohibited as outlined in the student handbook.
