1. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport buys hotel for $193 million
The Dallas Fort Worth International Airport board of directors approved the purchase of the Hyatt Regency DFW Hotel during the Aug. 6 meeting. The transaction, approved by the Public Facility Improvement Corp. on July 29, is for an amount not to exceed $193.65 million from Woodlake HRDFW Hotel Owners, LLC for the property at 2334 N. International Parkway.

2. Prosper postpones consideration of possible data center
Prosper officials’ review of Project Tomahawk, a data center proposed for 39.3 acres near the intersection of FM 1385 and Parvin Road, has been delayed. The Prosper Planning and Zoning Commission was originally set to consider the project at an Aug. 18 meeting, according to prior reporting. The project was removed from the Aug. 18 agenda and has not yet been rescheduled, according to an Aug. 10 town social media post.

3. Frisco ISD approves e-scooter ban for student commutes
Frisco ISD has prohibited students from traveling to or from school using electronic scooters. The change was made in response to municipal ordinances restricting scooter use on sidewalks and roads. FISD trustees approved a policy Aug. 3 preventing students from riding scooters to and from all district campuses.

4. Frisco eyes 3.7% tax rate increase for fiscal year 2026-27
Frisco City Council approved the city's fiscal year 2026-27 maximum tax rate, which could potentially increase residents' tax bill by nearly two cents. During an Aug. 10 special-called work session, the Frisco City Council approved a maximum tax rate of $0.441289 per $100 valuation, marking the first tax rate increase since 2017. Council members also discussed the FY 2026-27 budget, tax exemptions and funding sources.

5. McKinney council approves SUP for QuikTrip gas station on US 380
A new QuikTrip gas station and convenience store could be built on US 380 after McKinney City Council members approved a specific use permit. Council members approved the permit request during an Aug. 4 meeting. The gas station will be located at 1601 W. University Drive, according to a staff presentation.

6. McKinney officials propose $880M budget, increased tax rate for FY 2026-27
The city of McKinney’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2026-27 totals $880 million and includes funding for general operations, water and wastewater services, and more. Officials are also proposing a nearly 1.4% increase to McKinney’s property tax rate, according to a staff presentation. McKinney City Council members are expected to consider and take action on the proposed budget and tax rate in September following a citizen input meeting later this month.
