What’s happening?
The roundabout will be a single lane and will include a westbound right-turn lane turning onto Bedford Road. There is a proposed sidewalk that city staff and Kimley-Horn will look at constructing as the design phase progresses, Colleyville Public Works Director Amber Beard said.
The amount is not to exceed $152,000, according to city documents.
The engineer design proposal consists of a topographic survey, geotechnical engineering, bidding, contracting and construction administration assistance, according to city documents.
The project will be under design for likely the rest of the year, Assistant City Manager Adrienne Lothery said. Once the roundabout design is complete, the project will go out to bid for construction.
The city received $1.2 million from the Sagora Senior Living development and $500,000 from Tarrant County Commissioner Gary Fickes to fund the project, City Manager Jerry Ducay said. The rest of the amount will be paid using TIF funding.
The background
Kimley-Horn presented their findings from a traffic study done along Cheek-Sparger Road at the Dec. 3 worksession.
According to their studies, there were three crashes reported at the intersection of Cheek-Sparger Road and Bedford Road in the past five years, and one of those crashes was intersection related.
According to the presentation, approximately 1,500 cars would be going through the intersection at Cheek-Sparger Road and Bedford Road in 2029 during morning peak hours.
Approximately 1,800 cars are expected to go through the intersection during peak evening hours in 2029.
These calculations were based on a 2% growth rate and considered the future development of a H-E-B on the SH 121 corridor and the senior living facility south of Bedford Court.
What else?
Plans for reconstruction of Cheek-Sparger Road are also in discussion with the city finding ways to fund the project, Community Impact previously reported.
The reconstruction of Cheek-Sparger Road will start at Heritage Avenue and finish at Bedford Road. The improvements consist of:
- Two-lane road design with a paved width of 36 feet
- Turn lanes added to key intersections
- Pedestal trail reconstruction and enhancement
